# Race Report - Spurs Austin International Half
So this race was a last minute addition to the schedule. I was looking at a future race and noticed the credit I had was about to expire. This race began about 5-10 minutes away from my house and with a slogan like "Downhill to Downtown", you know it's going to be an easy, fun run. I knew about this race for about 3-4 weeks (2 of those being in the holiday season), so consequently, my preparation was pretty poor. My only goal was to run it from start to finish. Spoiler: I did. The prep was mostly incrementing my mileage as high as I could as quickly as my body allowed. There wasn't much time for pacing or muscular work.

Race day was a bit chilly. We just had a cold front come through, and it dropped down to the 20s that night. Hey, for Texas that's damn cold. I started the race in 29 degrees with some running pants, a hoody, hat, and gloves. I thought I might regret that later in the race when it warmed up, but ultimately I didn't. It stayed pretty chilly and windy the whole time. Plus, if I have my choice between under and overheating, I'll take overheating every time. I enjoyed running in 115 degree heat in Saudi Arabia for reference.
Weirdly enough, this might be the first local race I've ran. I've always travelled for my races because I like to use them as an excuse to see a new city, but I loved this one for letting me see my own city in a new light. It was surreal to run essentially from my house, watching the approaching city skyline grow bigger and bigger, and eventually end up at the state capital building.
