# Race Report - Ascension Seton Austin Half Marathon This race was a fun one—easily the biggest race I've ever done. It took between 35 and 40 minutes for my wave to finally cross the starting line. There were around 30,000 runners and well over 100,000 in the crowds. The weather was great, the atmosphere was great, everything was great. My preparation for this one wasn't the best. [[Trial Keto Diet|My diet]] between the [[Race Report - Spurs Austin International Half|last race]] and this one was experimental. I lost over 11 lbs which surely helped, but my training runs were torture. I averaged around 15 miles per week, which isn't great. I did give myself enough time to transition to a normal diet and do a little bit of carb loading in the final week leading up to the race. As I said in my [[Trial Keto Diet|diet review]]: ![[Trial Keto Diet#^6d4704]] The course and elevation for this one were pretty mild. Austin's relatively flat compared to other places I've ran. | | | | -------------------------- | --------------------------------- | | ![[202602_race_course_map.png]] | ![[202602_race_austin_elevation_profile.png]] | Overall, I enjoyed this race. I'm glad I decided to do some local ones for once. I want to slowly spread out and explore more of my state over the next couple of years. Texas is pretty big, so I'm sure I won't struggle to find a lot of races. ![[202602_race_medal.jpg | 500]]
